RACWI is always open to new members who are interested in writing and/or illustrating for children. Many of our members are published, but we also have many members who are “pre-published.”
We provide coordinated meetings to share knowledge about writing and illustrating for children and information regarding the publishing process. Our mission is to help those writers and illustrators seeking publication in the field of children’s writing and illustrating and those already published to improve their craft.
We typically meet in the evenings on the first Thursday of the month, September through June. Our meetings are a mix of in-person and virtual. The meetings cover a range of topics, but are mostly geared to improving our craft, with some traditional publishing information.
RACWI members also support the annual Rochester Children’s Book Festival (RCBF) by assisting festival organizers throughout the year, and volunteering on the festival weekend to set up the venue, greet the public, help authors and visitors navigate the event, and assist children in the craft areas. In addition, many RACWI members read and give presentations to the RCBF literacy outreach program (Festival To Go) in conjunction with the Rochester City School District.
Prospective members are welcome to attend one meeting as a guest.
Annual membership dues are $35 to cover the costs of honoraria for speakers and operating expenses.
